From producer Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) and director Rob VanAlkemade, "What Would Jesus Buy?" examines the commercialization of Christmas in America while following Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the Shopocalypse (the end of humankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the fires of eternal debt.) The film also delves into issues such as the role sweatshops play in America's mass consumerism and Big-Box Culture. From the humble beginnings of preaching at his portable pulpit on New York City subways, to having a congregation of thousands - Bill Talen (aka Rev. Billy) has become the leader of not just a church, but a national movement. Rev. Billy's epic journey takes us to chilling exorcisms at Wal-Mart headquarters, to retail interventions at the Mall of America, and all the way to the Promised Land on Christmas Day. The Stop Shopping mission reminds us that even though we may be "hypnotized and consumerized," we still have a chance to save ourselves this Christmas.

"Once, not a long time ago, a little Egyptian police band arrived in Israel. Not many remember that… It wasn't very important."
With these words, The Band's Visit opens, and with it the story of a small unimportant Egyptian band, stranded in a small unimportant Israeli town. I actually saw this film, and it was quite interesting… A nice departure from the usual Hollywood templates with real stories about real people.
The Band's Visit was nominated for an Academy Awars in the Best Foreign Language Film category, but was disqualified for having too much English.

The first reviews are already great, and people are already comparing it with Super Size Me in its importance. If you care about what goes into your body, King Corn looks like a great movie to further open our eyes.

When Moss takes the money, he sets off a chain reaction of catastrophic violence that not even the law - in the person of aging, disillusioned Sheriff Bell - can contain. As Moss tries to evade his pursuers - in particular a mysterious mastermind who flips coins for human lives - the film simultaneously strips down the American crime drama and broadens its concerns to encompass themes as ancient as the Bible and as bloodily contemporary as this morning's headlines.
Maybe it's the late hour, but the No Country For Old Men trailer left me so confused, I would've just passed on it immediately… But than again, it is directed by the Coen brothers, so you know I'll be all over it when it's released.

A new Superman Returns trailer has been released, and I must say, with each new trailer my excitement for this one builds. I had no expectations for the return of Superman, until I saw Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

The Vietnam War has been the subject of hundreds of films, both fiction and non-fiction, but this story–the story of the rebellion of thousands of American soldiers against the war–has never been told in film.
Sir! No Sir! will change all that. The film tells the story of an anti-war movement didn’t take place on college campuses, but in barracks and on aircraft carriers. It flourished in army stockades, navy brigs and in the dingy towns that surround military bases. It penetrated elite military colleges like West Point. And it spread throughout the battlefields of Vietnam. It was a movement no one expected, least of all those in it. Hundreds went to prison and thousands into exile. And by 1971 it had, in the words of one colonel, infested the entire armed services. Yet today few people know about the GI movement against the war in Vietnam.
An Inconvenient Truth eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change. A longtime advocate for the environment, Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way. "Al Gore strips his presentations of politics, laying out the facts for the audience to draw their own conclusions in a charming, funny and engaging style, and by the end has everyone on the edge of their seats, gripped by his haunting message," said Guggenheim. An Inconvenient Truth is not a story of despair but rather a rallying cry to protect the one earth we all share. "It is now clear that we face a deepening global climate crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly, and wisely," said Gore.

Why has Hollywood always felt the need to dress up computer programming and hacking in fancy rotating 3D GUIs? Is "Hello World!" not sexy enough? Is it possible the new film, Firewall starring Harrison Ford, could be the first step toward a film that respects its viewers' intelligence, or are we looking at another "Hackers"? You'll find no answers to these questings in the new Firewall trailer. But you will find a sweet trailer filled with some great action, which certainly has me intrigued to see more. Let's hope they don't blow it by handing the "programming FX" to Pixar.

Acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass ("Bloody Sunday," "The Bourne Supremacy") writes and directs an unflinching drama that tells the story of the passengers and crew, their families on the ground and the flight controllers who watched in dawning horror as United Airlines Flight 93 became the fourth hijacked plane on the day of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil: September 11, 2001.
"Flight 93" recreates the doomed trip in actual time, from takeoff to hijacking to the realization by those onboard that their plane was part of a coordinated attack unfolding on the ground beneath them. The film attempts to understand the abject fear and courageous decisions of those who-over the course of just 90 minutes-transformed from a random assembly of disconnected strangers into bonded allies who confronted an unthinkable situation.
The trailer for Open Season is here, and it's a big improvement over the last teaser we've seen back in June. Big improvement, but still not enough to win me over. Sony Pictures Animation still has their work cut out for them if they are to gain a foothold in this growing market, a market largely dominated by Dreamworks and Pixar (should I say Disney when saying Pixar, or not? Who can keep track of those two...?)
A second "V for Vendetta" trailer has been released, and is now available here on the Punk. We've also released an exclusive HDTV quality DivX version of the original trailer for your enjoyment.
